Delta community gives NPDC 21-day ultimatum over amenities (Nigeria)

UGHELLI-THE people of Uzere in Isoko South Local Government Area, Delta State, Nigeria  have issued a 21-day ultimatum to Nigeria Petroleum Development Company, NPDC over alleged breach of terms of an existing Interim Memorandum of Understanding, IMoU entered with the company. The people in a letter addressed to the Managing Director of the company, asked the company to address the issues in the IMoU which was signed on November 19, 2013 "to avoid dire consequences." The community listed the areas where the company failed in the IMoU to include alleged; "delay/refusal of NPDC to connect power from the Uzere flow station to the community hospital and water scheme thereby denying the community access to potable water supply and light even when the project has been completed. "Incomplete scoping and award of legacy projects which excluded the hospital road, x-ray machine and mortuary crates for the hospital; renovation of the hospital and staff quarters as well as water and gate for the Eni Primary School." The community in the letter by its lawyer, Mr P. Oboreh, accused NPDC of "refusing community contractors to execute three running contracts which had been duly awarded by deliberately denying the contractors and their workers entry into the Uzere Flow Station." Alleging that the company has also "failed or refused to review upwards the IMoU payment accruable to the community since the assumed average daily production of 2,000 barrels per day from Uzere West Field is actually 14,000 barrels per day since the commencement of production in December, 2013," the community expressed worry that the company has remained undaunted despite series of letters and meetings.
